3rd December 2025

We are pleased to announce the upcoming 4th edition of LexisNexis Butterworths’ Lissack and Horlick on International Bribery and Corruption – due to be published on 5 December 2025.  Alex Haines co-wrote the chapters on the Debarment Frameworks of Multilateral Development Banks (“MDBs”) (Chapter 33) and Financial Sanctions (Chapter 20) with Sophie O’Sulivan.

The new edition of this comprehensive work offers a full overview of the legislation set in both a national and international context, with a full explanation of the scope of relevant acts and MoJ guidance together with detailed insight into anti-corruption measures and sentencing. Written by expert practitioners in white collar international crime (with magic circle and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act practitioner contributions), this comprehensive resource is an essential tool for legal professionals and experts navigating the complexities of international bribery law. While both authoritative and accessible, it offers a clear emphasis on all practical issues with each chapter ending with a bullet-point list summarising key points to be considered.

Alex wrote the MDB chapter in the 3rd edition in 2020. He has lectured on the debarment frameworks of MDBs to the Brazilian Bar Association, British Chamber of Commerce, Korean Bar Association, Shanghai Bar Association, English Law Week in Mexico, and has been a panellist at the International Symposium on Economic Crime at Jesus College, Cambridge. He was a rapporteur for OUP’s Oxford International Organizations (“OXIO”) and wrote the headnotes on the sanctions procedures and equivalent texts for the AfDB, EBRD, and World Bank.  Alex co-produced the Unspoken Giants podcast on MDBs where he discussed investigations, compliance and their debarment frameworks.

Alex is ranked for Public International Law, Sanctions, and Business and Regulatory Crime (including global investigations). He is called to the English and Irish Bars, and admitted to the Bars of New York and Washington DC.
