Andrew Stevens will be speaking at the first of three LMAA-Shanghai Maritime University webinars on 15 September 2020.  The first webinar is on current shipbuilding topics.

Andrew will be speaking on the recent major decision of Butcher J on the prevention principle and the SAJ form in Jiangsu Guoxin v Precious Shipping [2020] EWHC 1030 (Comm) in which Andrew appeared as lead advocate for the shipyard.

The judgment makes findings which differ from those in the previous leading judgment of Leggatt J on delay under the SAJ form in Zhoushan Jinhaiwan v Golden Exquisite Inc [2014] EWHC 4050 (Comm).

The case, which arose out of a long-running and complex set of 11 arbitrations concerning a series of 14 newbuild bulk carriers, settled before an appeal (for which Butcher J gave permission) was heard in the Court of Appeal.

The first webinar will take place at 7.30am UK time on 15 September 2020.  A video of the session will be available on demand afterwards.

Andrew will be joined by two other speakers – Ian Gaunt (Immediate Past President of the LMAA) and Chris Kidd (Partner, Ince).  For further information on how to join, please use the following QR code or follow this direct link.

Andrew Stevens has considerable experience of complex and high-value arbitration and litigation often in construction, energy, offshore, oil & gas, shipbuilding and shipping fields.  For more information please contact [email protected].
