Overview


Gabriel is developing a practice across all of Chambers’ main areas of expertise, including:

Gabriel has been instructed to advise on and appear in insurance, commercial and construction matters. Recently, Gabriel has worked on multi-million disputes in the TCC, both led and unled, as well as in major commercial arbitrations.

Gabriel also has experience at obtaining interim relief, including obtaining and resisting injunctions (including freezing injunctions).

Gabriel’s practice is focused on commercial and construction matters. Gabriel has appeared led and unled in the High Court, and appeared in KBD, the TCC, the Commercial Court and also in the County Courts. Gabriel has extensive experience of commercial arbitration, including working on disputes in the LCIA, ICC and GAFTA. Gabriel also has significant adjudication experience, including recently appearing in a two-day oral adjudication.

Gabriel has also drafted pleadings relating to sanctions and IT matters. Additionally, he has recently developed experience in luxury assets disputes, including disputes about live-aboard vessels, luxury cars and ultra-high value watches.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Gabriel took a first and then a masters in history at Trinity, Cambridge, where he was President of the Union, as well as being a member of the Footlights.

Advised on the construction of a first-refusal clause in a private equity investment dispute worth
£12.5 million

Advised on the nature of the guarantees to be given by a party seeking a freezing injunction in
respect of an investment fraud

Instructed in a large-scale unlawful means conspiracy fraud dispute based in the Caribbean

Assisted in drafting an application to discontinue an arbitration for non-payment of security for costs
by a sanctioned Russian entity

Assisted in respect of a multi-party dispute as to the use of building liability orders under the Building
Safety Act

Advised on operation of payment notices under a JCT 2016

Assisted in respect of a multi-million claim arising from the mid-construction collapse of a care-home

Assisted in respect of a one-week Riyadh seated arbitration in respect of delay in the construction of
a hotel

Cases

Advised on applying to the FOS in respect of an insurer’s decision that parties had failed to honour
obligations of fair representation

Instructed as sole counsel in a dispute about the proper construction of a home insurance contract

Regularly instructed on behalf of insurers to defend them in claims for motor vehicle damage liability
and credit hire damages

Cases

Assisted with a two-week arbitration worth hundreds of millions of pounds involving questions of relief from forfeiture of two ferries which had been bareboat chartered. This matter also involved foreign law expert evidence

Advised on demurrage, laytime and deadfreight disputes
