Luke Broadway’s developing a broad practice across Chambers’ areas of expertise, including shipping, construction, energy, technology, cryptocurrency, data protection, insurance, insolvency, and civil fraud.
Luke holds a first-class degree in law from the University of Exeter, and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford. Prior to being called to the Bar, Luke worked at the Law Commission as a research assistant in the Commercial and Common Law team, assisting with the Digital Assets project. He then worked as a judicial assistant to Sir Geoffrey Vos, Master of the Rolls, in the Court of Appeal.
Luke is interested in the breadth of commercial work. He gained exposure to Chambers’ core areas during his pupillage, which he completed under the supervision of Robert Scrivener, Quentin Tannock, Daniel Churcher, and Laurence Page.
Luke maintains a strong academic interest in law, in particular the law of obligations and the law of agency. He has been published in a number of leading journals.

Luke has experience in commercial disputes. Aside from his experience as sole counsel, during pupillage he assisted with various pieces of complex commercial litigation for his supervisors.
Acting as sole counsel in a variety of applications, including winding up, strike out, summary judgment, and set aside.
Acting as sole counsel in a number of County Court trials.
As a pupil, assisting with an unless order application, stemming from a failure to comply with disclosure in a civil fraud matter in the telecommunications context.
As a pupil, assisting with an advice in a shareholder dispute involving allegations of fraud, forgery, and unfair prejudice.
As a pupil, assisting with a skeleton argument resisting an injunction to prevent winding-up in a construction context.
Luke has a strong background in technology, having contributed to the Law Commission’s report on Digital Assets. During pupillage, Luke took on a number of technology-adjacent cases. He continues to focus on this area, as well as his data protection practice.
Preparing draft documents, both pleadings and otherwise, for a major technology corporation.
On two occasions, appearing as sole counsel and successfully striking out claims against a major cryptocurrency exchange alleging breach of the GDPR (failure to adequately respond to a DSAR, and non-consensual processing of third-party data).
Appearing as sole counsel in a successful set-aside application, leading to strike out, on behalf of a well-known online retailer.
Luke continues to develop his construction practice. His exposure ranges from high-value project work to housing and property disputes. Luke has experience with unled drafting work, as well as led/assistive work for senior members of Chambers.
Acting as junior counsel to Peter Oliver in a complex piece of solar project litigation, providing research assistance on the law relating to breach of contract, good faith, waiver, estoppel, equitable charges, and mortgage redemptions.
Preparing a Defence and set-aside application in a landlord and tenant dispute concerning the parties’ respective obligations on vacant possession of social property.
Preparing a Defence in a surveyor’s professional negligence dispute stemming from the improper construction of a foul drainage system, and advising on the prospects of success at trial.
Preparing a Defence in a conversion claim, brought against a letting agent, following the destruction of allegedly specialist commercial property.
As a pupil, assisting with a claim (on behalf of a charity) against an architect for negligent design of a swimming pool vapour membrane.
As a pupil, conducting legal research for a high-value, complex international arbitration relating to a Middle East energy facility.
As a pupil, assisting with an advice and Particulars of Claim in a latent defect insurance coverage claim, stemming from defective cladding on a hotel.
