Cyber Security Challenge UK masterclass

As serious breaches in cyber security become increasingly common, it is important that events like Cyber Security Challenge UK’s masterclass search for up and coming talent and inspire the younger generation to pursue a career in the industry, something that 4 Pump Court are very proud to be supporting this year.

The challenge was centered on potential cyber attacks on the shipping industry as ports and the shipping trade are crucial components of our national infrastructure and are rapidly becoming popular targets for hackers. This year’s masterclass saw 42 budding cyber security experts being put through their paces in a recreation of a cyber security breach of a fictitious shipping company.

Alex Charlton KC, Matthew Lavy and Gideon Shirazi conducted a mock trial as part of the final stages. Contestants presented their evidence collected throughout the masterclass to convict the hackers of their crimes. The evidence needed to be clean, the chain of custody secure, and the logic of their analysis sound – a scenario often faced by those in the cyber security industry.
