28th November 2017
Middlesex University Dubai, in collaboration with the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC), hosted the final round of the inaugural EMAC Regional Moot on 23rd to 25th November at its Knowledge Park campus, Dubai. We were very pleased to be able to participate, with Sean O’Sullivan KC sitting as one of the arbitrators.
The moot gave students valuable insight into international arbitration, with an emphasis of dispute resolution, through a regional perspective, as well as the opportunity to participate in workshops hosted by international lawyers with experience in the arbitration sector. Event proceedings introduced the budding legal professionals to EMAC’s arbitration rules and presented them with a real world arbitration problem. Participating students were required to prepare written submissions on behalf of the Claimant and Respondent, with the successful teams moving on to the final oral argument round.
Sean added “With Dubai’s increasing profile as a venue for international maritime arbitration, it is really encouraging to see EMAC working with the next generation of lawyers to give them vital experience of the arbitration process”.
