Today The Lawyer have published their feature on the Top 20 Cases of 2023, highlighting key matters being played out in the courts this year. Featured was Tata Consultancy Services v Disclosure and Barring Services which Stephen Cogley KC, Matthew Lavy and Iain Munro are counsel for the claimants: Tata Consultancy Services.

This is a large-scale, high-value and technically complex dispute (£100m+ claim; £100m+ counterclaim) relating to the provision of IT implementation and business process transformation for the UK’s Disclosure and Barring Service. With pleadings running to 100s of pages, and numerous allegations about the technology, timescales and the way the project was run, this will likely eclipse CIS v IBM as the biggest IT trial of recent years. It also has a political dimension, the project having been the subject of intense scrutiny by the Treasury Select Committee. The Tata Consulting Services are part of the Indian owned Tata Group conglomerate. Disclosure and Barring Service is the government agency responsible for DBS checks.

Stephen, Matthew and Iain are instructed by BCLP Joby Davies and Rachel Ziegler (Partners), Rhys Corbett (Associate Director), Charles Reed (Senior Associate) and Fiona Boyle (Associate).
