Laura has worked on a wide range of technology-related disputes involving computer systems, internet services and software across a variety of industry sectors. Laura has particular experience of claims arising out of software project failures and delays and has knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript.
Laura is a committee member of the Society for Computers and Law Junior Lawyers’ Group and is currently organising the annual Student Tech Law Challenge.
Instructed as sole counsel by a leading digital currency exchange in multiple cases involving cryptocurrency transactions.
Junior counsel in a dispute concerning the development of a crash detection telematics system.
Junior counsel in a multi-million pound TCC claim for breach of contract arising out of the design and installation of a hospital’s electronic records system.
Assisted in a claim involving breach of contract, breach of confidence and copyright infringement in relation to application software development and maintenance in the context of the production of a virtual router.
Worked on a dispute concerned with software used to control wind turbines and involving claims for copyright infringement, breach of confidence, procuring breach of contract, causing loss by unlawful means and conspiracy.
Assisted in defending a claim arising out of the sale of a semiconductor business. Laura was involved in the primary case concerning allegations of breach of non-compete covenants, breach of director’s duties, misuse of confidential information and copyright infringement, as well as a further patent entitlement dispute.
Laura has in-depth knowledge and experience of the full breadth of intellectual property law including copyright, confidential information, patents, trade marks and passing off.
Acting in an IPEC claim involving breach of a merchandise licence agreement, trade mark infringement and passing off.
Junior counsel (and drafted pleadings) in a High Court claim involving breach of a technology licensing agreement, copyright infringement, trade mark infringement and passing off.
Instructed as sole counsel in an IPEC copyright infringement dispute.
Assisted with a case concerning revocation of a patent for network communications.
Worked on a claim for copyright infringement, breach of confidence and breach of contract against a former employee arising out of the writing and use by the employee of software.
Assisted in an IPEC trade mark infringement and passing off trial involving a compromise agreement.
Laura acts in construction and engineering disputes involving litigation and arbitration.
Instructed as junior counsel in a multi-million pound arbitration involving a contract for the fabrication of steel structures for the offshore industry.
Instructed as junior counsel in an adjudication concerning the contractual status and obligations of a sub-contractor.
Drafted pleadings and advised in a dispute concerning damage to a fuel line following building works.
Instructed in a matter concerning an account closure and removal of funds following allegations of fraud.
Worked as part of the legal team in disputes concerning “close out” positions under the GMRA and GMSLA following events of default.
Instructed in a dispute involving an endowment policy.
Assisted with the hearing of a preliminary issue in an arbitration concerning the classification and operation of on demand guarantees.
Drafted claim submissions for a shipbuilding arbitration involving allegations of defects in the vessels.
Laura has worked on a number of commercial disputes in line with chambers’ practice areas.
Assisted in a professional negligence dispute concerning mortgage fraud which included issues of negligence, breach of trust and breach of warranty of authority.
Regularly acts on behalf of insurers, both in relation to subrogated claims and coverage disputes.
Laura is regularly instructed to appear in the County Courts in respect of small claims and fast track matters. Her experience includes trials, CCMCs and interim applications including strike out and summary judgment applications.
