Our barristers are instructed in the most significant cases in the insurance markets, up to and including the Supreme Court. Recent examples are the Covid-19 business interruption litigation, including FCA v Arch Insurance (UK) Ltd and the Russian aircraft litigation arising from the war on Ukraine. Over the past 30 years members of our insurance and reinsurance team have been involved in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, the Lloyd’s Names litigation, the PA LMX spiral, Film Finance and US catastrophes including 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
We have expertise across a wide range of insurance products including Bermuda form, business interruption, contractors all risks, cyber, D&O, energy, financial institutions, marine, political risks, professional liability and property.
Matters on which we are instructed typically involve issues of cover, aggregation, notification, avoidance, fraud, jurisdiction and third party and subrogated claims. Our expertise in reinsurance includes treaty, excess of loss, proportional and facultative products.
Our specialism in insurance and reinsurance is linked to other core areas of practice including commercial litigation, construction, energy, offshore, professional negligence, shipping, technology and transport. We act in brokers’ disputes and are instructed in a significant amount of coverage work. We offer counsel teams for complex matters containing experts in all of these fields.
Much of our advocacy is in the London Commercial Court , with significant representation in major UK and international arbitrations.. The depth of our international experience means that we are very well placed to advise on complex, multi-jurisdictional insurance matters.
