4 Pump Court is recognised as one of the go-to sets for offshore commercial litigation, offshore regulatory disputes, insurance and reinsurance as well as international arbitration and UK litigation involving offshore entities.
Members of Chambers have worked extensively on projects involving Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, the wider Caribbean, Guernsey, Jersey, Gibraltar, the Isle of Man, the Middle East, and the Far East, particularly Singapore, Hong Kong, and China.
The offshore litigation and regulatory work undertaken by members ranges across the full breadth of such work, including company and insolvency disputes, insurance and reinsurance disputes, directors & officers and trustees’ liability claims, professional negligence claims, joint venture, shareholder and partnership disputes, investment fund disputes, banking disputes, civil fraud and asset recovery, regulatory investigations and regulatory enforcement proceedings, and judicial review litigation.
Members of Chambers also have extensive experience of cross-border litigation and jurisdictional disputes, as well as applications for urgent injunctive relief, including freezing injunctions, anti-suit injunctions, applications to appoint provisional liquidators and receivers, and applications for disclosure of information and production of evidence.
Clients include financial institutions, regulators, Government agencies, professional service providers, corporate service providers, fiduciaries, insolvency practitioners, financial professionals and ultra-high net worth individuals with trust interests in this area, as well as international and offshore law firms.
We are regularly instructed in a wide variety of offshore work including leading cases relating to directors’ and trustees’ liabilities and company issues; in respect of regulatory matters concerning insurers and their regulators and more generally in advising offshore regulators and stock exchanges and those subject to regulatory scrutiny.
A number of members of Chambers have been admitted generally, or on an ad hoc or temporary admission basis, to the local Bars of relevant jurisdictions, including Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, and the Isle of Man. Members have also taken on secondments at offshore firms, allowing them to appear on local matters as part of the wider legal teams.
Members also appear frequently as Counsel in substantial offshore and international arbitrations.
A number of members of Chambers have sat as judges, tribunal members, or arbitrators in various offshore jurisdictions, including Bermuda, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man.
Various members of Chambers have also provided expert opinion evidence, or assisted with legislative drafting, on legal issues involving offshore jurisdictions and British Overseas Territories.
4 Pump Court’s experience in its other core practice areas (including insurance, construction and energy, shipping, and IT and telecoms), and its members’ reputations for excellent oral and written advocacy, and grasp of technical detail, also makes the set one of the preferred choices for offshore work across a range of industries and sectors.
