The UK Jurisdiction Taskforce’s Legal Statement on Liability for AI Harms under the private law of England, will be released this evening at 6:30pm.
Generative AI is now used by a vast number of individuals, businesses, and professional services providers. Since the advent of generative AI in 2022, lawyers, developers and users of AI alike have expressed concern about when and whether Large Language Model developers and others involved in the AI supply chain might be liable for harms caused by AI.
This Legal Statement attempts to provide some early legal certainty in an area where few cases have yet reached the courts. It has been prepared by the UKJT’s AI drafting team, chaired by Matthew Lavy KC and including Iain Munro, Richard Munden, Lucy McCormick, Isabel Barter and Jacob Turner), in consultation with a wider expert group.
You can access the statement on the UKJT website here.
